CORK COUNTY BOARD CONVENTION 2009 



The Convention was held on Saturday the 23th of January at Rocklodge before an attendance of over 40 eager delegates.Mrs Bell patron of the PPUI attended and Myles McMorrow Vice President PPUI also attended.All the officers gave a detailed breakdown of the activities for the year. ..

The Registars report showed 1574 gents registered in Cork with 574 ladies ,this is a slight increase since 2008..All of last years officers were re-elected except Margaret O'Riordan who stepped down after a highly successful stint as Vice Chairperson being replaced by Junior Ryan and Noel Collins from the Majestic club in Mallow coming on board as Juniors(u16s) Officer.The board have no registar at the minute but if any club have any ideas please contact any member of the board.

There was 30 motions on the clar and these resulted in healthy debate.

These were some of the motions which passed ,some of these must go to National Convention to become law

1. Beaten Semi Finalist's and Finalists of the Ladies & Gents National Matchplay automatically qualify for the finals the following year provided they enter and pay the entry fee.

2 As an addition to Rule 9 (A club shall be held responsible for the conduct of its members as members of the Union and for the efficiency of the arrangements and conduct of tournaments held under its auspices. Officers of a club not operating in accordance with the Constitution or found in breach of the Rules of Play of the shall be liable to suspension or such less punishment as the NEC may decide.)

We would seek to add the following : 9.1 That a club may apply to their respective County Board to request the NEC to hear the case of an officer of any county board or any officer of the NEC in the case of conduct unbecoming an officer. That the specific mentioned officer of NEC or of the County Board, may not adjudicate at this case.

3.That as part of annual convention an annual election would be held to propose, elect and mandate any representatives of the NEC or PPUI of any international bodies.

4.That all General and League Byelaws be suspended for a period no longer than twelve months except number 1 under the Officers section with a review to take place at next years County Board Convention.

cork ladies handicap matchplay at inniscarra

Congratulations to Pat Conway on winning the inaugural Cork Ladies Handicap Matchplay at a well prerpared Inniscarra from an entry of 27 other ladies.Pat beat Phil Downey of Collins in an excellant final.

Cork Secondary Schools 09 at Crosshaven

 

Well done to Colaiste Mhuire Crosshaven on winning the title of the best secondary school on the cork pitch and putt circuit from 22 other teams at crosshaven for the first time in their history

PETER HEALY MEMORIAL TEAM EVENT 09

Congratulations to Lakewood team of Pat Conway,Jo Mccarthy,Gary Cotter and Dave Twomey on winning the peter memorial healy team event.This is a prestigous event played in memory of one Corks hardest working administrators of recent years

IRISH INTERNATIONAL OPEN 2009

Congratulations to Brian Delaney on finishing second in the First Irish International Open in Clonee Co Meath just missing out on first by only one shot,also well done to Owen Walsh Collins who finished fourth .A brave effort by all concerned ,well done to the rest of the cork players who played in this event.

 

NATONAL INTER COUNTIES 2009

Congratulations to both our Ladies and Gents inter county teams who both performed brillantly in Clog in Newry Co Down .

On Saturday ,Our ladies team of Siobhan Scannell Collins, Ann Daly E.S.B ,Claire O'Flynn E.S.B , Sharon Bowes Fermoy ,Linda O’Donovan Ballinlough and our sub Vera McCarthy Collins all played very well to finish only 3 shots behind the winners Dublin, Cork played particularly well in the back 9 to nearly pull off an historic victory which would have bridged a 16 year gap since our last gold medal .Well done to all our ladies who played their heart out which bodes well for next year when the competition will be played on home soil in St Anne’s.

On Sunday Our Gents team of Darren Collins St Annes,Brian Delaney E.S.B ,John Cahill Fermoy,John Walsh Collins, Ray Murphy Templebreedy and sub Kieran Dunscombe Fermoy played brilliantly under the worst of conditions to win an historic seventh title in a row, the first team since 1973 when Dublin completed their seven in a row. They beat Meath by only 2 shots.Heres looking forward to St Annes next year when Cork attempt to make history and win their eight title in a row.

NATONAL JUNIORS INTER COUNTIES 2009

Best of luck to our Junior team in Portmarnock in Dublin on Saturday next when they are attempting to retain their title won last year in Lakeside.

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR JUNIOR TEAM WHO WON THE NATIONAL INTER COUNTY TODAY IN PORTMARNOCK.

Best of luck also to our Junior players who are playing in the indivdual championship,also in Portmarnock on Sunday next.

CONGRATULATIONS TO BRIAN MALONEY(MAJESTIC) WHO WON THE NATIONAL JUNIORS STROKEPLAY IN PORTMARNOCK. BEATING CHRIS O'SULLIVAN (PFIZERS) INTO 2ND AND DEAN REID OF C.P.M DUBLIN INTO 3RD AFTER A 9 HOLE PLAYOFF , IN THE 36 HOLES ALL 3 TIED ON 97(-11).


ALSO WELL DONE TO MICHAEL HOWARD(PFIZERS) ON WINNING THE 10-13 YEARS CATEGORY IN THIS COMPETITION.

 

MUNSTER INTER COUNTIES 2009

Well done to our Juniors,Ladies and Gents Teams who all won their respective grades in the Munster Inter Counties held on an excellant Lakeside course in Templemore Co Tipperary on Sunday last.The Gents won by 14 after being 7 behind after the scotch foursomes but surged clear in the 18 holes singles,the ladies won by 9 having to withstand a gallant fightback from the Tipperary ladies in the singles and our junior(u16s) team won by a tidy 34 shots.

National Strokeplay 2009

Brian Delaney of the ESB club from Cork City with a score of 140(-22) overcame a top class field to win his first national senior title in Tralee last Sunday beating John Walsh of collins into 2nd by 3 shots and another Corkman John Cahill of Fermoy into 3rd by a further shot. The Intermediate grade brought further Cork sucess with Trevor O donavan from Majestic in Mallow winning on a score of 150 (-12) by two shots from Colin Sheehan of the Claycastle club in Youghal and by 5 from Chris Mccarthy of the Pfizers club.

 

MATCHPLAY 09 AT MAJESTIC

Ray Murphy of Templebeedy demonstrated what a great a player he is having to hole a chip off the back of 17th to win that and a putt of about 15 feet to half the 18th with Brian Delaney of ESB within gimme distance for a two .Both Players were about 20 under for the 36 holes.In the playoff Ray chipped in again to win the title.

Liam Myers of the St Annes Club in Cork City was a convincing winner of the inter from Pat Horgan of the home club.

Michael Dennehy of the Douglas club in cork city held his nerve to win the junior title from Tim Murphy from Kilshannig in North Cork.

The Majestic course in Mallow was in outstanding condition for the weekend and great credit is due to all the members condition..

Our intention is to ensure that all players in Cork can be kept up to date with what is happening in and around the Cork area.

Entry Forms can be downloaded directly from the website as can draw sheets. In addition details of forthcoming meetings and the over 55’s fixtures will be made available.

Full details of Cork competitions are available as are the contact details for all the officers. In addition those who have sponsored our competitions are also listed and you are urged to give them support whenever possible.
